GET TO KNOW NJABULO SFISO KHOZA

Njabulo Sfiso Khoza whose stage name is  ZuluSwagg is an artist who was born in Northern KwaZulu Natal, Vryheid. He grew up in North West, Rustenburg. He is turning 27 this year. He is a Multi Award-Winning Radio Presenter, Voice Over Artist, and a Social Media Influencer.

WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO BE IN MEDIA?

I grew up listening to the radio a lot. That played a huge role in being the person that I am today. I started doing music back in high school in back-room studios. When other learners didn’t know what they will be doing after matric, I already knew I wanted music and radio. Nothing else. I started working towards my dream after high school.

HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN IN THE MEDIA INDUSTRY?

I got my first radio gig in 2015, at a community radio station in Rustenburg called Village FM. I have worked for about 4 radio stations which include: Evoque Radio Kasie FM in Johannesburg. I have hosted Red Carpets, TV Interviews & reality shows. I have been around & active for about 8 years now.

WHAT ARE THE CHALLENGES FOR SOMEONE WHO IS IN MEDIA?

It is not easy. Especially these days it’s all about connections, numbers more than talent. They hire mainstream influencers and celebrities more instead of talent. Another challenge is most companies pay you what they think you deserve than what you are actually worth.

WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE SOMEONE WHO WANTS TO BE IN THE ENTERTAINMENT INDUSTRY?

Research about the industry, get an agent, submit demos. go to those interviews over and over again, invest in our brand and push more, never give up.

WHAT SHOULD WE EXPECT FROM YOUR BRAND THIS YEAR?

Other projects that are out of media have been keeping me busy but ill try to release a single this year, hopefully, I will also be back on air.

YOU ARE WHAT YOU EAT

image : Mpumelelo Chapi

how many times have you heard the saying “you’re what you eat” ? a lot right? that’s because you really are what you eat.

Nutrition is important for health. An unhealthy diet can damage your metabolism, cause weight gain, and even damage organs, such as your heart and liver.

But what you eat also affects another organ — your skin.

As scientists learn more about diet and the body, it’s increasingly clear that what you eat can significantly affect the health and aging of your skin.

I took the liberty to share with you the best 5 foods for healthy skin.

  1. Fatty fish

Fatty fish, such as salmon, mackerel, and herring, are excellent foods for healthy skin. They’re rich sources of omega-3 fatty acids, which are important for maintaining skin health.

Omega-3 fatty acids are necessary to help keep skin thick, supple, and moisturized. In fact, an omega-3 fatty acid deficiency can cause dry skin.

The omega-3 fats in fish reduce inflammation, which can cause redness and acne. They can even make your skin less sensitive to the sun’s harmful UV rays.

Some studies show that fish oil supplements may help fight inflammatory and autoimmune conditions affecting your skin, such as psoriasis and lupus.

Fatty fish is also a source of vitamin E, one of the most important antioxidants for your skin.

2. Avocados

Avocados are high in healthy fats. These fats benefit many functions in your body, including the health of your skin (7Trusted Source).

Getting enough of these fats is essential to help keep skin flexible and moisturized.

One study involving over 700 women found that a high intake of total fat — specifically the types of healthy fats found in avocados — was associated with more supple, springy skin.

Preliminary evidence also shows that avocados contain compounds that may help protect your skin from sun damage. UV damage to your skin can cause wrinkles and other signs of aging.

Avocados are also a good source of vitamin E, which is an important antioxidant that helps protect your skin from oxidative damage. Most Americans don’t get enough vitamin E through their diet.

3. Walnuts

Walnuts have many characteristics that make them excellent food for healthy skin.

They’re a good source of essential fatty acids, which are fats that your body cannot make itself.

In fact, they’re richer than most other nuts in both omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids.

A diet too high in omega-6 fats may promote inflammation, including inflammatory conditions of your skin like psoriasis.

On the other hand, omega-3 fats reduce inflammation in your body — including in your skin.

While omega-6 fatty acids are plentiful in the Western diet, sources of omega-3 fatty acids are rare.

Because walnuts contain a good ratio of these fatty acids, they may help fight the potential inflammatory response to excessive omega-6.

What’s more, walnuts contain other nutrients that your skin needs to function properly and stay healthy.

One ounce (28 grams) of walnuts contains 8% of the DV for zinc.

Zinc is essential for your skin to function properly as a barrier. It’s also necessary for wound healing and combating both bacteria and inflammation.

Walnuts also provide small amounts of the antioxidants vitamin E and selenium, in addition to 4–5 grams of protein per ounce (28 grams).

4. SUNFLOWER SEEDS :

In general, nuts and seeds are good sources of skin-boosting nutrients.

Sunflower seeds are an excellent example.

One ounce (28 grams) of sunflower seeds packs 49% of the DV for vitamin E, 41% of the DV for selenium, 14% of the DV for zinc, and 5.5 grams of protein

5. SWEET POTATOES:

Beta carotene is a nutrient found in plants.

It functions as provitamin A, which means it can be converted into vitamin A in your body.

Beta carotene is found in oranges and vegetables such as carrots, spinach, and sweet potatoes

Sweet potatoes are an excellent source of beta carotene, which acts as a natural sunblock and may protect your skin from sun damage.

Are We Really Free ?

it has been 28 years since the African National Congress, in the Bill of Rights, endorsed the legal recognition of same-sex marriages, and the interim Constitution prohibited discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation. These provisions were kept in the new Constitution, approved in 1996, due to the lobbying efforts of LGBT South Africans.[As a result, South Africa became the first nation in the world to explicitly prohibit discrimination based on sexual orientation in its constitution. Two years later, the Constitutional Court of South Africa ruled in a landmark case that the law prohibiting homosexual conduct between consenting adults in private violated the Constitution.

The question still remains. Are we really free ? some of the members of the queer community still feel like the Government is not doing enough to fight against the hate crimes towards the Queer community.

The murder of Andile ‘lulu’ Ntuthela who was found in a shallow grave in the backyard of the murder made waves on social media along with the murder of Sphamandla Khoza from KwaZulu Natal which also made us aware of other killings of the other members of the Queer community.

it is Pride month but a lot of the members of the queer community do not feel ecstatic about this year’s Pride month because of the recent killings which made them feel like they are at the bottom of the food chain and their problems are the least to be attended when being reported.

we can not run away from the fact that many South Africans still perceive LGBTQ individuals as inherently immoral and “un-African”, and thus pay little attention to the abuse they endure on a daily basis in the country.

Personally i think It is time for South Africa to respond decisively to this growing problem by adopting preventive measures against homophobic hate speech and hate crimes.

The Gay and Lesbian Alliance of South Africa has urged the parliament to pass a proposed hate crimes law. The Prevention and Combating of Hate Crimes and Hate Speech Bill 2018 aims to outlaw hate crimes and hate speech on grounds of race, gender identity and sexual orientation, among others. The bill’s ratification has been delayed due to concerns that it may inhibit freedom of speech.

South Africa’s ruling African National Congress (ANC) party has always been progressive in this sphere and should demonstrate bold moral leadership by ratifying the planned hate crimes bill without further delay.

It must also use every single tool at its service to raise awareness about LGBTQ rights at home and abroad, as this persecuted community’s most fundamental human rights are under threat not only in South Africa but across the continent.

BENEFITS OF USING TURMERIC AS FACE MUSK

IMAGE : @CHAPIMPUMELELO

BENEFITS OF USING TURMERIC ON YOUR SKIN

Turmeric has the potential to reduce swelling (inflammation) and irritation. Inflammation and irritation can aggravate other skin conditions, so using turmeric as a regular face mask can help.

REDUCED INFLAMATION

Curcuminoids, the active compounds in turmeric, are sometimes used to decrease inflammation in arthritis. These potential anti-inflammatory effects could possibly help your skin, too.

ANTIBACTERIAL POTENTIAL

Turmeric may also treat and prevent bacteria in the skin that can otherwise contribute to acne cysts and staph infections. (Any active infections should be looked at by a doctor first, though!)

ACNE TREATMENT

With its anti-inflammatory potential, turmeric may be helpful in treating inflammatory acne. This includes:

cysts
nodules
pustules
papules
The extract may also reduce the appearance of acne scars.

  • There are no known side effects of turmeric used in skin care. Still, it’s always a good idea to do a patch test before using any new ingredient on your skin. Even plant-based products like turmeric can cause reactions in some users.

To do a patch test, you’ll want to make your turmeric mask ahead of time and then apply a small amount to your arm before using it on your face:

Wait at least a day, and if no reactions develop, it’s likely safe for you to apply the turmeric mask on your face.
Don’t use the mask if any redness, swelling, or itchiness develops on your patch test.

GET TO KNOW PHILELA GODLWANA

Philela Godlwana is a 25 year old , Former graduate of UKZN. She studied bachelor of Social Science  in Geography & Environmental Management . She’s an environmentalist by profession however she is someone who is the lover of fashion & arts , hence her being in this Fashion & arts journey. She is someone who appreciates creative people who choose to channel their energies in different creative ways even though it might not be necessarily mainstream, she’s someone who has  an optimistic look on life . She loves beauty , art , fashion , music and Interior design.

WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO BE A SOCIAL MEDIA INFLUENCER ?

Ok so I’ve always wanted to do something creative from when I started university which was back in 2013. However at that time I was enrolled for the bachelors degree which was very much in the science field I think I didn’t consider how strong my passion was but instead I focused on what was expected of me because in matric I did very well I’ve always been really good in  Science, Maths and Accounting,  so in university I was like “oh well let me do this  I’ll get a good job afterwards” however on my first year when I discovered You Tube I was so enchanted because I had no idea that there was so many girls who were posting content ;  who were sharing make up tutorials and outfits ideas so I was absolutely consumed and  from there I wanted to start a You Tube Channel , however I didn’t have  any equipment, and I just kept on procrastinating . My love for You Tube and content creating for me was ignited before it was a praise to be an influencer. I didn’t just jump on it because a lot of people are doing it. I absolutely loved  it since then and the whole time during university I would speak about it to my friends and I was so passionate about it but I kept on procrastinating for years because I didn’t have equipment and also my academic career was too much time consuming . So after university I had several jobs but nothing ever fulfilled me, I was still consumed by the meer fact that I wanted to start a You Tube channel , I just basically wanted to share information because I’ve always got DMs from girls asking for ideas based on what I post on social media. My inspiration has always been sharing information.

Image : @philelag

HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN AN INFLUENCER?

It has been a little over a year because I’d consider my self as someone whose gone professional a year ago when I decided to purchase my equipment and to just level up and when I bought my equipment I told my self that I’m giving my self a year to establish my self and showcase what I can do with what I have .

Image : @philelag

WHAT ARE THE CHALLENGES FOR AN INFLUENCER?

There are a lot of challenges . First and far most as a black person we get overlooked by people who can’t even do better than us but because we’re black we get overlooked, and when we do actually get those jobs we get underpaid. And because You’re  someone whose starting out you can’t say “no I can only do this job for this ** amount of money” that something that I have personally experienced and I actually would rather pass out the job because you can see the skills that I have.  Also the industry tends to choose the same people for all the campaigns over and over again , which can be quite discouraging. The industry recycles a lot of people and these brands hire celebrities who are not even qualified to do the jobs that we do but because they have an x amount of followers they’ll just hire them and those celebrities do the absolute bare minimum, but for the most part we get overlooked soo much only because you don’t have an x amount of followers or you’re not friends with the right people and then you find people who do something not satisfactory but yet they get jobs and reposts and that is very heartbreaking sometimes.

WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO A PERSON WHO WANNA BE AN INFLUENCER?

I would say if this is something that sets your soul on fire then go for it , i would also say don’t listen to people who say “there are so many other influencers out there” this is a new industry it has  so much potential for growth, everyone has a place . Don’t try to copy someone else but be effortlessly yourself as tempting as it is to copy other people , don’t do that because they already have that person they are not looking for a person whose going to replicate that person so be your self , show us what you are about . And most of all Put in the work , if it means sleepless nights and waking up at 5 o’clock in the morning it’s worth it and if it makes you happy and if it satisfies your soul then do it. Don’t look for instant gratification, as long as you’re putting out content that is interesting,  that is good quality, that is innovative there will be other people that will identify with your craft

Image : @philelag

WHAT SHOULD WE EXPECT FROM YOUR BRAND THIS YEAR ?

Expect to see excellence , higher production, more creative ideas , growth and most importantly expect to see innovation and something that represent what is happening in the world . I wanna make it conscience of reflecting things that are happening to  our community in my work so right now there a lot  of talks about BLACK LIVES MATTER  and empowering black business that is something that I’ve always been interested in doing because I find that a lot of influencers once they get some money. First thing they do is they go buy those high end designer outfits from overseas and yet we have so many African luxury brands that intend to create more jobs for us as South Africans and that will grow our economy which is something that we need right now . I wanna be in a position to empower other people.

Image : @philelag

WHERE CAN WE GET HOLD OF YOU ?

You can get me on Facebook & Instagram @ Philelag i also have an active You Tube channel which I post videos every single week . My email Address is on my Instagram as well as my You Tube

That was my interview with Philela Godlwana who is an amazing Fashion & Lifestyle influencer. Y’all don’t forget to follow her on social media platforms she produce an amazing content.

How To Enhance Your Skin Using an Egg

Image: Mpumelelo Chapi

Eggs are naturally rich in nutrients and offer a large number of health benefits, particularly egg white is highly beneficial to enhance our beauty. Here are the  benefits of using egg whites to enhance your appearance.

Image: Mpumelelo Chapi

Egg whites are really effective to get a cleaner looking face by removing the facial hair. You just simply need to apply egg white all over your face and cover it with a paper towel, which has holes , brush another layer of egg white over the paper towel and let it dry completely. Pull out the paper quickly so that the thin and tiny facial hair also comes along with the dried paper.

This method is also effective to reduce puffiness under your eyes, controls premature aging, the formation of wrinkles, fine lines and sagging facial muscles, and to get rid of the black heads.

NB : remember to separate the yolk From an egg white before you use it to apply on your skin.

Do this twice a week and let me know the results by commenting below

Happy Pride Month

Today marks the first day of pride month and as a writter of this blog i would like to wish a HAPPY PRIDE MONTH to the LGBTQIA+ community out there.

This month we are honouring the LGBTQIA+ community and especially those who have died for being true to them selves like those 50 people who died in Orlando and their death was considered the worst mass shooting in recent US history.

A nationwide moment of silence was held at 18:00 local time (22:00 GMT).

As LIFESTYLE ACREDITATION we still resonate that GAY RIGHTS ARE HUMAN RIGHTS. We are all human and so let’s all love, cherish and treasure one another Love is love, it has no Colour,Gender and Race.

May this month spread some love to every member of the LGBTQIA+ Community

MODIFYING YOUR LIFESTYLE

  1. lack of sleep is one of the main causes of undereye bags and it is also most treatable. Sleep atleast 7 hours every night. Set a new sleeping schedule for your self and make sure you stick to it. Avoid late nights as much as possible.

  3. Avoid salty foods and alcohol , both of these can lead to fluid retention which is your body’s automatic defence mechanism against dehydration

OTHER ULTANATIVE WAYS TO FIGHT DARK CIRCLES

Apply moisturizers, gell and creams under your eyes. There is an overwhelming range of skin products available which makes it difficult to choose the right one for the job.

TIP

  • look for topical products that contains vitain k, vitamin c, vitamin, D and E, retinol and caffeine

personally i would recommend SKIN REPUBLIC COLLAGEN HYDRO UNDER EYE PATCH which is a product i have been using and the results were amazing, it is found at Clicks and the sachet has 3 pairs inside for less than 70 buks.
